Half-fat Mercedes-AMG E 43 saloon debuts in New York
396bhp Mercedes-AMG E 43 fitted with twin-turbo V6 and four-wheel drive
Only weeks after the official launch of the new Mercedes E-Class, the brand's AMG division has got its hands on the executive saloon to create the Mercedes-AMG E 43. It will arrive in dealers in September.
Fitted with the same twin-turbo V6 found on the equally new C 43, the larger E 43's unit develops 396bhp; that means it's capable of 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed limited at 155mph.
The AMG E 43 gets a rear-biased four-wheel-drive system, a nine-speed automatic gearbox with shorter shift timings to improve efficiency and Air Body Control air-suspension as standard.
The exterior of the car has been given a more aggressive look, with chrome exhaust tailpipes and new 19-inch AMG alloy wheels.
This aggressive feel continues inside, with front sports seats featuring red and black decorative stitching – a theme added throughout the cabin. There are also red seatbelts, new pedals and a sports steering wheel with a new AMG instrument cluster.
AMG has created a dedicated sports suspension system that works by Air Body Control. The damping system uses three modes – comfort, sport and sport plus – to adjust the level of the suspension.
Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG, said: "The new E 43 4MATIC offers impressive driving dynamics coupled with cutting-edge efficiency. Twin turbocharging, features adopted from motorsport and the characteristic AMG design immediately indicate to our customers that the new E-Class from AMG offers pure Driving Performance.”
